Finally! The sewing room was ready for some decor! First up:

Floating shelves

I shopped and shopped and shopped for the perfect shelves that weren’t too pricey, not too big, not too small, decent reviews, etc…and settled on this set of 4 shelves knowing that I wanted at least two above my sewing desk. When I got them, the quality was meh, but I didn’t pay a butt ton either. They definitely needed a coat of poly as they must have stained these right before they sent them off. Thankfully I have lots of leftover poly!

Shelves

A couple of coats later…they were ready to hang.

Shelves hung

But look at all that empty space! Oh my…Yes, of course I have a plan. I’ve been planning for well over a year. Hmph.

Gallery Walls Unite!

If we’re friends on the book or insta, you’ve probably noticed a purchased print here or there from the Canadian artist Janet Hill. I stumbled across her work at our local antique store who decided to stock her prints on a regular basis. Probably because someone kept buying them (ahem). Anywhooooo…I have a collection and just needed to figure out the best way to display everything. So I cut out paper templates the same size as all of the frames and started arranging on the wall with just tape so that I could picture things better. After a few variations, I settled on this one.

gallery planning

And then I nailed all the holes in the wall and hung everything!

And then I added more to the shelves! I love being able to decorate with useful things. And now I can have plants in my sewing room that Bandit can’t reach!!!

I took advantage of the one other little wall on the other side of the room for a couple of antique shop finds along with another print.

Let there be (more) light

I loved the table lamp I got free from our local Buy Nothing group but it was really big and took up some of my precious table space. And I needed another light for my cutting area as the top light in the center of the room wasn’t cutting it (ha!) for my older eyes. So more shopping I did. I finally decided on these plug in wall sconces from target – the gold was a perfect match to the accents I’ve been adding throughout the room.

I added one to the gallery wall and one to the wall where my cutting table is. I realize they look a bit weird on their own but, again, I’ll always side with function, when necessary. I had to move around some of the artwork to get it to work (and may still tweak it a bit). AND I added a third shelf! Very happy about that. Don’t worry about the plant. She’s just dramatic.

See, she’s fine. And now has a friend.

And don’t fret…my free lamp is still being used for extra lighting in the cutting area! (I spy another post coming up here…)

Functional and pretty!

That’s my motto!

I had been on the hunt for one of these Scandinavian sewing boxes for a while…not sure why I was drawn to them, but I was. And then, one day, venturing through a vintage shop in the last booth I looked, it was there…in pristine condition! Kismit.

Look at that function!

At the same shop, I found this wall basket that I knew would be a perfect spot to put my pattern fabric. I used command hooks to secure it to the side of my arch cabinet (not drilling holes in that sucker, no way) and it’s a great storage spot!

Then on the other side of the cabinet, I bought (on sale, of course), a new spool rack and added some eye hooks to the top of it so that I could also attach it easily to the other side of my cabinet. Viola! Apparently I need more thread…

Mirror mirror on the wall…

Who has the prettiest sewing room of them all???

I had been eyeing the arched mirrors for a long while and never bit the bullet. This one at Target had caught my eye as well but it was more than I wanted to spend. Then it went on sale WITH a Target circle deal on top of that. And now I don’t have to run downstairs to check the fit of things I’m sewing!
